Google now recommending that ‘display’ network is selected by default on ‘search campaigns’.
By and large, display network gives higher CPAs, and low conversions (if at all). Definitely do not start a campaign with this as default.
In cases where it might work, add ‘display network’ to existing ‘search campaigns’ where there is enough conversion data and red hot demand for your product.
This is a clear example of how having a reputable ppc agency on your side can save you a lot of money.
